Our client, Bradfords Building Supplies, is a substantial Division of The Bradfords Group which is a long established private family company with a Group turnover of circa £170m pa. The Group is profitable, liquid and growing with an exceptional name for quality and customer service and has the potential for sustainable controlled growth.  It is a market leader in its field with an enviable reputation for innovation and is currently seeking to recruit an incisive Finance Director to bring together performance reporting whilst consolidating monthly and annual accounts.  He/she will also be instrumental in enabling the organisation to achieve its strategic goals.

This key role will be the ‘engine room’ of finance, driving and managing MIS to produce monthly management and annual statutory accounts in a meaningful and timely fashion.  The remit covers the business planning and budgetary control cycle/aspects in addition to the monitoring of performance trends and commercial analysis – it is vital that the executive team are provided with strong control and robust reporting during a challenging period of change and increasing complexity. There is a need to proactively engage management within the business, establishing key drivers and KPI’s, improving efficiency and protecting/maintaining margin, etc.  You will drive both efficiencies and systems, eradicating waste, lead a small focused team and develop a can do/value-add finance culture that enables business development whilst enhancing shareholder value.  Stewardship of the accounting function, as well as strong IT skills, are taken as read but added value is actively sought in the wider commercial debate on mix, margin and yield.  In conjunction with the Divisional MD, you will determine strategies for driving growth and increasing profitability.

Prospects will be a graduate qualified accountant with a proven track record and good commercial experience already gained in industry, preferably within a fast-moving, dynamic, multi-site business.   Exposure to retail, B2B or the distribution sector would be advantageous.  You will have considerable experience at Finance Director level and will be able to demonstrate how your rigorous approach to reporting structures and financial processes will add value to the business.  Process improvement is a key area of the role and candidates must be skilled at analysing business objectives and finding ways of streamlining and improving business processes.  As well as sound cash flow and cash management experience, candidates will have a commercial focus, excellent motivational, communication and strong IT skills, including advanced spreadsheet and modelling.
