Are you up for the challenge?
We have an exciting opportunity to join the NFU’s Food and Farming department due to maternity leave. NFU Sugar is the single entity that represents all sugar beet growers in the UK and negotiates on their collective behalf with the single processor (British Sugar Plc). The NFU performs a crucial role in advising and lobbying policy makers, and influencing legislation on the areas that matter most to beet growers.

Main purpose and scope of job:

  • To review all beet payments made to or by the processor to growers and to ensure compliance with the Inter Professional Agreement (IPA) and other regulations.
  •  To review all payment calculations to ensure they are consistent, accurate and are in growers’ best interests.
  • To audit and review British Sugar’s management information and other supporting documentation (e.g. RPA returns)
  • To review all financial information provided by the process relating to sugar beet payments to growers in the UK (e.g. seed accounts, contracted tonnage allocations, transport allowance and extraction data) and as required review all data provided on the processing operations of British Sugar.
  • Monitor and have a comprehensive understanding of regulations governing the UK beet sugar sector and to check compliance with the terms of the IPA.
  • To support the annual beet price negation process with British Sugar through financial analysis and interpretation.
  • To develop and maintain a comprehensive database that monitors world and European sugar prices
  • To undertake ad hoc analysis when required evaluating the impact of sugar beet production quotas in 2017

 

About You

You will enjoy analysing complex data sets and have an ability to communicate the results to a wide variety of audiences. You will be confident in presenting and comfortable with answering detailed queries from sugar beet growers. Past experience in data analysis and interpretation is essential and you will be proficient with spreadsheet packages (e.g. Excel). You will also be able to effectively prioritise and have a track record of delivering work to tight deadlines.

You will be educated at degree level or equivalent in Maths, Accountancy, Statistics, Economics or a related discipline.

An accountancy qualification is desirable but not essential.
