Manchester city centre

Here at Co-op we operate five pension schemes, including one of the largest in the UK. The scope is huge - we've got over 150,000 active and deferred members and pensioners, circa £10bn of pension assets, and the complexity of historic DB and current DC schemes. Our pensions accounting team provides comprehensive finance support across all five schemes, and now we're looking to recruit a talented Accounting & Investment Officer to join the team, and help to deliver strong financial control and reporting across our pensions portfolio. If you can bring us great technical accounting ability combined with a real desire to learn and develop your skills, we can offer you the chance to build a career with a business that really does put people at the heart of its strategy.

As an Accounting & Investment Officer at Co-op, you'll deliver a wide range of accounting processes to support the maintenance and financial control of Co-op pension schemes. You'll get exposure to investment accounting for over £10bn of assets, and we'll give you real autonomy to plan and prioritise your work so you can meet challenging deadlines on a daily basis.

What you'll do:

* Deliver of month-end and year-end accounts

* Accurately record and process financial transactions

* Be involved with pension scheme accounts and audit preparation

* Prepare and complete routine financial reporting

* Get involved in ad-hoc project work

* Drive continuous improvement

* Work to key performance indicators and strict deadlines

To be successful as an Accounting & Investment Officer, you'll need to be a budding accountant who's keen to get involved in pension scheme accounting & investments. Previous pensions experience would be a big advantage, but it's not essential. Most important will be your natural numeracy skills, and ability to work as part of a team to deliver high quality work on-time, every-time.

What you'll bring:

* Part-qualified accountant status (or studying towards qualification)

* Some accounting experience (must have strong reconciliation skills)

* The ability to meet rigorous deadlines with a strong quality of work

* Great communication and team-working skills

* Intermediate MS Excel skills

* Strong numerical abilities
