The University’s annual income of over £260m is made up from a complex base of fees, research and wider operating income. Managing these complex finances is a team comprising of some 75 staff, who carry out full service finance and procurement functions. The division is continually renewing itself and its ambitions, supporting a University that continues develop as a market leading educational establishment.
The University of Sussex is seeking to appoint a new Capital Accountant on a fixed term basis. The primary focus of the post will be to deliver financial control, budgeting and forecasting services in support of the University’s £400m capital programme, allowing us to accurately predict the University’s financial performance and manage its financing needs during this important period of investment.
The successful candidate will:
- Be a professionally qualified accountant (CIMA/CCAB);
- Be able to manage budgets alongside a broad range of stakeholders from within and outside of the University;
- Be adept at developing highly sophisticated capital forecasting models;
- Deliver an improved process to release capital funding when and where it is required by the University;
- Develop accurate management control processes for both capital grant and fixed assets;
- Work in a fast paced and complex environment;
- Be able to work with external partners to capture, monitor and report on the financial costs associated with continued capital investment projects;
- Bring highly developed systems skills;
- Design and produce high quality business information.
