A mid-tier north-London based Accountancy firm with a great reputation in the market is looking to recruit an Accounts Manager to join their expanding team. Ideally located for someone who is tiring of the commute in to Central London, but still wants to retain a clear and structured career path. Responsibilities of the role will include but will not be limited to:

  • Provide a good role model to team members
  • Assist in recruitment & selection of team members
  • Supervise team members and provide training for all levels
  • Provide timely, consistent and constructive feedback to team through PDRs, team appraisals, file reviews and informal methods
  • Manage the work plan.
  • Communicate with other managers, i.e. by attending fortnightly managers' meetings, in order to consider staffing levels, recruitment, performance of the team and other issues.
  • Manage employee relations issues that arise with assistance and advice from HR
  • Review accounts files leaving a minimum of points for Partner clearance.
  • Full understanding of accounts documentation on Caseware.
  • Develop working relationships with client and be the first port of call for general queries and advice.
  • Take responsibility for finalising jobs including prompt billing and dealing directly with Partner.
  • Use excellent written and oral communication
  • Have a good grasp of clients' personal and corporate tax affairs becoming familiar with all filing and payment requirements and relevant deadlines.
  • Have an understanding of all the Firm's services to discuss them at a general level with clients (subject to regulatory constraints in relation to audit clients).
  • Delegate work effectively and efficiently to allow jobs to be completed within budget
  • Monthly billing process including:
  • Preparing a schedule for the Partners each month showing what will be billed on your portfolio that month
  • Monitoring all WIP over 3 months old, and discussing with Partners each month what should be billed and written off.
  • Raising and issuing fee notes to clients, with appropriate fee schedules
  • Ad-hoc tasks as required.
  • Update Partner on a regular basis and bring to the attention of Partner anything which is not understood or which is inconsistent with expectations
  • Be involved in planning and preparing budgets.
  • Take on additional projects / responsibilities as directed (these will have their own specific targets)
  • Fulfil measures of effectiveness and meet competencies set for role
  • Keep up to date with developments specific to role.
  • The Firm reserves the right to require you to perform other duties outside your normal work duties as the Firm may reasonably require.


To be considered for this role you must be ACA/ACCA qualified or equivalent, and have clear demonstrable accounts experience within a practice space. Prior man-management experience is essential for this role, and the ability to motivate and mentor other staff members.

As this role has some adhoc management responsibility it's crucial that you can work well as part of a team and have the ability to get on and work with multiple personalities. Strong academics would be a bonus. For more information please apply below.
