The Financial Controller position is accountable for the accounting operations of the business. This includes the production of group monthly and annual financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records (including time recording and order book) and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standards. The controller is also responsible for cash management, software licence delivery and support of grant claims and grant cost forecasting. This is a managerial role and involves managing the accounting staff responsible for the day to day accounting procedures.

Description
Management
- Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
- Oversee the operations of the accounting department to achieve its goals and objectives
- Oversee the accounting operations of subsidiary corporations, especially their control systems, transaction-processing operations, and policies and procedures
- Maintain a full system of controls over accounting transactions
- Take responsibility for ISO compliance, internal audits and liaison with certification body.
Reporting
- Issue timely and complete monthly financial statements for the group with both financial and operating key performance indicators and commentary
- Coordinate the preparation of the corporate annual report
- Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts
- Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management
- Provide for a system of management profitability and cost reports for business unit heads
Transactions and Controls
- Manage the process to ensure that accounts payable are recorded accurately and paid in a timely manner
- Responsible for ensuring that all reasonable discounts are taken on accounts payable
- Oversee the expenses process so that employee expenses are recorded accurately and paid in a timely manner
- Review costs and implement cost improvements where appropriate
- Ensure customer contract documentation is being completed and is consistent
- Ensure customers are being invoiced properly in accordance with contracts and on a timely basis
- Monitor others to ensure that accounts receivable are collected promptly
- Ensure that there is full compliance with and take-up of the timesheet system and reporting
- Review project delivery against anticipated schedule and margins
- Coordinate the provision of time and material statements and associated invoices to customers
- Ensure that payroll is processed in a correct and timely manner
- Ensure that periodic bank reconciliations are completed
- Maintain the chart of accounts
- Maintain an orderly accounting filing system
Compliance
- Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit
- Coordinate the provision of grant information to auditors as required
- Monitor cash/debt levels and ensure compliance with debt covenants
- Comply with tax and other government reporting requirements
Profile
The controller candidate should have a degree and be a qualified accountant (ACA or CIMA) with at least 3 years post qualification experience in business.
Job Offer
£250 per day
