This Assistant Management Accountant will be to provide an accurate and efficient system for the processing of financial transactions and provide assistance to the Financial Director for all Accountancy work around month and year end. Manage the Accounts Assistant, delegating tasks and overseeing their work as appropriate. This is a 12 month fixed term contract
Client Details
Bedford based National company with a great history and heritage who hold an excellent track record of rewarding staff for effort and hard work. Based in great facilities with parking on-site and good public transport links they are looking for a Assistant Management Accountant to supervise an accounts assistant and assist the Financial Director with month and year end along with the ensuring the transactional finance side is run effectively.
This is a 12 month fixed term contract for maternity cover but with ongoing growth of the company the potential of a longer term and More permanent position is likely to arise
Description
Month end
- Complete profit and loss accounts
- Complete and file monthly VAT returns including non-business VAT restriction calculations.
- Process month end journals for reprographics, printing and photocopying, hospitality and payroll.
- Maintain the fixed asset register, updating and reconciling it at each month end. Perform periodic physical asset checks as required.
- Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations for approval by Financial Director
Budget
- Produce monthly budgetary position reports for all budget holders, including monthly printing cost breakdowns, and assist with queries.
- Assist the Financial Director with annual budget preparations.
Year end
- Assist the Financial Director with year-end journals, accruals, pre-payment and balance sheet reconciliations.
Purchase Ledger
- Process purchase orders ensuring they are authorised in accordance with the Financial Handbook.
- Oversee processing of purchase invoices correctly on the finance system, obtaining invoice authorisation from relevant budget holders. Administer and pay staff expenses.
- Oversee supplier statement reconciliations and resolve invoice and payment queries. Clear outstanding purchase orders and goods received notes.
- Reconcile credit cards on a monthly basis, retrieve VAT receipts and post appropriate journals.
Sales ledger
- Process sales ledger invoices and chase outstanding debts. Produce monthly outstanding debtor reports and status updates to highlight potential problem debts.
- Count, record and reconcile cash receipts
Bank and Cash
- Process petty cash claims and post petty cash journals.
- Complete reconciliations for all bank accounts and Pay.
- Maintain the cash flow, updating on a monthly basis.
Management
- Line-manage the Accounts Assistant, including coaching in performance of their duties and encouraging them to develop technical expertise and a professional attitude in dealing with staff and student queries.
Profile
- AAT qualified or studying towards an accountancy qualification is desirable but no essential
- Solid experience across purchase and sales ledger and exposure to assisting with Month and year end accountancy.
- Excellent organisation skills.
- Experience in using Microsoft Office, database packages and the ability to quickly learn new finance systems.
- Experience in communicating with external parties.
- Professional appearance and approach to work.
