SF Group are currently recruiting for an Assistant Accountant to join a well established organisation with great opportunities to develop and progress.
As an Assistant Accountant you will undertake the following duties:
- Process sales invoices and purchase invoices, managing the sales and purchase ledgers.
- Prepare accruals and prepayment journals.
- Process and record all receipts and payments in line with appropriate delegated authority requirements.
- Make cheque payments, prepare bacs runs and issue remittance advices.
- Responsible for credit control activity to reduce debtor levels, issuing statements and chasing as required. Keep staff informed of debtors as appropriate to mitigate sales' risk.
- Analysis of cash flow and forecasting to maintain liquidity.
- Maintain petty cash holdings; issue, record and reconcile as appropriate.
- Perform daily review of online receipts to enable cash book records to be current and post onto SAGE.
- Liaise with outsource suppliers and other departments to reconcile receipts, sales and refunds.
- Perform monthly reconciliation's for relevant control accounts, including bank accounts.
- Perform VAT analysis each quarter, apply the relevant partial exemption adjustment and consolidate across the group.
- Provide a financial service to IGEM's sections, produce section accounts at least quarterly and liaise with section treasurers.
- Maintain accounting records for other funds, including the History Fund, Benevolent Fund, Restricted Funds and the Trading Company.
- Attend and participate in Finance Committee meetings. Provide a secretarial service to the Committee including administration and minutes.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of Finance policy and procedures.
- Assist in the year end process, including liaising with and providing information to financial auditors.
- Support the provision of information, maintaining the integrity of information for audit trail and efficient referencing.
- Such other duties as may reasonably be required commensurate with the grade and job purpose and in the assistance of the Finance Manager.
Essential Criteria:
- Experience of providing financial information for review.
- The ability to work efficiently in an organised manner with strong organisation skills, initiative and attention to detail.
- Be highly numerate with an excellent eye for detail.
- To work accurately and logically.
- The ability to prioritise workloads to meet deadlines.
- The ability to prepare clearly written reports for a range of different users.
- The ability to communicate effectively.
- The ability to innovate and challenge existing practices.
- Have IT skills including a high level of Excel proficiency and experience of using an accounts software package, preferably SAGE Line 50.
- Willingness to learn and maintain skills and knowledge.
