The product portfolio includes customised invoice finance and factoring solutions, outsourced credit control and finance facilities for contractors in the construction industry. The company is well funded and has a strong network of financial intermediaries. There are around 20 people in the new Basingstoke office where the environment is fast paced but fun. The finance function is run solely by the Finance Controller who is an important member of the management team and who performs a vital and wide ranging role.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the Financial Controller will have overall responsibility for finance and accounting issues in the business. The role is, by its nature, very broad based with hands on involvement in all transaction processing and invoicing as well as cash management, monthly reporting internally and to external funders together with budgeting, forecasting and year-end accounting. The accounting system is Sage Line 50 and Excel is also used extensively for analysis, budgeting and reporting. In addition, specialist factoring software is used to manage client activities. The person appointed will be encouraged to continually look for improvements in processes and in the quality of management information and will also be involved in ad hoc projects to evaluate new opportunities and products. Wider responsibilities will include all premises and contractual matters, payroll reconciliation and liaison with external auditors and tax advisors. In an environment that is fast paced, deadline driven and constantly changing, the Financial Controller will be responsible for providing measured and well researched advice to the Managing Director regarding the priorities to be addressed in the short and medium term. This is a challenging multi-dimensional role which can play an important part in the growth and development of the company. It is based in the new Basingstoke offices.

The Person

The role is ideal for a finance professional with a breadth of experience at Financial Controller level and a willingness to become immersed in the complete accounting operation from transaction processing to high level reporting. Ideally, candidates will have been involved in the financial services industry and previous experience of asset based lending will be very useful. They will be part or fully qualified or if qualified by experience must be able to demonstrate rock solid accounting skills and experience of the cycle of processing, reporting and budgeting. Excellent systems knowledge is a must and should include strong Excel skills and experience of accounting packages, ideally Sage Line50. We are looking for a good communicator with strong attention to detail who is comfortable with a hands-on role in an environment where a collaborative approach is required. We need a proven organiser who can adapt to changing requirements and the ability to meet deadlines in a high-pressure environment.
