The Company
Our client is a growing and reputable company operating in the Telecoms space with a turnover of c£30m and based in the South East.
Background
This new business unit involves project implementation followed by managed services which are subject to improvement and expansion over time.
Ongoing revenue for projects is over £5m per annum and growing, hence the need for a project accounting resource.
Analysis of the history of projects over the last 18 months since the project business commenced has been substantially completed; this will give an insight into necessary process improvements and supplier weaknesses.
The Role
The business has developed rapidly and although project management controls have been implemented recently, the finance department has not had the experience to partner the Project Managers over the initial development of the business.
A project accountant is required to manage finance for the project business, ensuring that good accounting practice is followed; revenue leakage is minimised; suppliers are paid correctly and project margins are understood.
There is also a need to develop management information, project reporting and operational/ commercial processes in conjunction with the PMO and the management team.
Deliverables
Policies are in development, but to implement these effectively, detailed processes will need to be proposed, agreed with management, and implemented.
Monthly reporting needs to be improved for both customer and supplier information and KPIs developed for the business.
Forecasting and accounting; explanations of profitability variations against forecast, must be delivered in an accurate and concise way.
Commercial support will be given to PMO management, finance and sales functions.
The Individual
Qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA)
As this role will work closely with Sales, Commercial and Operational teams it is important that the individual can show success in working in a similar environment, ability to challenge and also demonstrate technical financial knowledge in the project space.
Experience in an IT, Outsourcing or other similar environment in a technical industry would be helpful.
