Our client is a well established, pioneering and entrepreneurial specialist in the processing and trading of commodities. Following a management buyout, the business has undergone significant change and now seeks to appoint a proven finance professional in support of the Managing Director and to pro-actively drive best practice in finance and across the business. 

Award winning for both Enterprise and for International trade and, with established customers in every continent across the World, they are at an exciting point in their evolution, from which they now aim to drive significant growth.

The role of Financial Director will be responsible for all aspects of finance within this fast-moving environment. As a key member of the Senior Management Team you will focus on improving insight, efficient processes and robust controls throughout the day to day operation whilst partnering with the Managing Director to explore new commercial opportunity. Ideally, your natural leadership style combined with your vision for operational excellence will result in effective development of your team, encouraging the sharing of knowledge and installing a culture of ownership and accountability. The business is medium sized meaning you should also be willing to take a hands-on approach.

You will undertake a review of current operations / procedures / IT systems / reporting, costs, margins etc establishing and managing the development of a model that is fit for purpose, now and for the future, across all areas in your remit, and will lead in the installation of a culture of continuous improvement.  Key to your success in the role will be your ability to maintain a focus on the bigger picture, whilst not taking your eye off the detail, and the provision of analysis and commercial support to all areas of the business.

You will be a qualified accountant, with experience having been gained within a commercial, structured and professional environment. The business is quite complex, trading in multiple currencies (forex), with the use of credit insurance, an international logistics capability, an in-house trading team and an on-site manufacturing/processing capability too. Ideally you will have experience within an internationally trading business accompanied with an advanced level of academic ability, which will enable you to pick up the complexities quickly.

Skills, qualifications and experience you should have include:

  • An Accountancy Qualification – ACA, ACCA, CIMA
  • International trading, forex, hedging etc
  • Strong leadership
  • Maintaining the relationship with the bank and other investors
  • Trading and commodities would be advantageous
  • Mergers and acquisitions (M&A)
