Head of Finance and Operations
London
£60000 - £70000 per annum + Benefits
The Aga Khan Foundation (UK) is part of the Aga Khan Development Network a group of ten private development agencies working to empower communities and individuals and improve the quality of life in Central and South Asia, the Middle East, and sub-Saharan Africa. Annual operations of AKDN's not-for-profit entities exceeds $600 million. The Foundation's own programmes span education, health and rural and urban development. Across all of its work is a strong commitment to developing civil society, promoting community participation, and advancing pluralism and social inclusion.
Operating under new leadership in the UK, the Foundation seeks a Head of Finance and Operations. Reporting to a committed and results-orientated CEO while driving a small team of 3, the Head will:
- Ensure efficient and timely management of accounts, payments, reports generation, and management analysis relating to all financial aspects of the Aga Khan Foundation (UK), including with respect to relationship cultivation, resource mobilisation, and accountability to several bilateral and multilateral donor agencies.
- Oversee the effective use and management of the organisations accounting system and its Raiser's Edge donation system; work closely with the Finance team to design, develop and generate regular reports and analysis.
- Generate monthly forecast analysis, projections and recommendations to the CEO, Geneva leadership, and the Finance Sub-Committee to enable more effective decision-making.
- Meet all statutory requirements, including with respect to the preparation and timely submission of the annual financial accounts.
- Serve as the direct interface and lead on all financial, audit, legal and donations matters, meeting various governance requirements including through close liaison with a National Committee, global AKF leadership, and, as needed, financial controllers in more than twenty countries and across ten AKDN agencies.
- Work closely with the CEO to prepare timely and accurate Board and budget papers, including robust supporting analysis and worksheets.
- Work closely with the Programmes team to enhance grants management and financial systems within AKF(UK), as well as between developing country units and other AKDN agencies.
- Support wider AKDN projects, including oversight of the financial accounting for the King's Cross construction project in the UK.
Committed individuals with a passion for development and the desire to improve lives will have ample opportunity to make a difference through this challenging but rewarding role.
This is a highly effective organisation that achieves a considerable amount with a very lean administrative and finance function. It is imperative that the incumbent is a self-motivated, task- and results-orientated individual with a demonstrable track record of significant successes gained within their career thus far. An ability to operate at both the strategic and operational "hands-on" levels is also essential. You should be a fully qualified accountant whose experience to date would allow you to flourish in a position of this seniority and scope. This includes possessing first-rate numerate and analytical skills, with excellent communication abilities, that are adaptable to a range of audiences, styles and situations.
Applications are firmly welcomed from those with purely commercial backgrounds as well proven performers already working within the charity/international development sector.
