HMRC

Chief Financial Accountant

London / Worthing / Southend (moving to Stratford)

circa £100,000

HMRC is one of the largest government departments and collects the revenue that fund our public services. Working as part of the Chief Finance Office this is a leadership role critical in providing Government with the funds to run the country. Last year we collected over £500 billion in tax revenues from 45 million individual customers and 4.8 million business customers. We have one of the largest IT estates in the UK, and a constantly changing property portfolio. HMRC is currently going through a major transformation programme, including a £200 million investment in digitisation, and is committed to delivering significant cost reductions and increasing tax collected.

You will be responsible for producing our £500 billion annual report and accounts under the scrutiny of the NAO and Public Accounts Committee, directing the development and management of HMRC corporate financial accounting frameworks, policies, procedures and standards, and taking account of external developments.  Working closely with the Director of Finance Strategy and Performance, you will ensure consistent and rigorous deployment across the Department.  Your work will have a significant impact across the organisation and help to drive us towards achieving our ambitions as a high performing department.

This is an exciting and challenging opportunity for an outstanding individual to make a difference in one of the largest, most complex and diverse organisations in the UK. There are few roles that enable you to operate at this scale.  We are therefore looking for someone with the technical ability and credibility but as important are the authentic leadership qualities that you can bring to this role and the department. Motivating and leading a team of technical finance professionals, and developing strong working relations with a diverse range of stakeholders across the business will be critical to your success.

Closing date for applications: Monday 30th January 2017
