Our client is a leading global manufacturer of geared motor and in creating the perfect combination of motor and gearbox to match the customer’s application. They can offer thousands of standard options and can easily customise any motor or gearbox to meet the client’s exact requirements at no or minimal extra cost. They require a Financial Controller to report to the Finance Director and to undertake all aspects of financial management, including corporate accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, budget and forecasting preparation, as well as development of internal control policies and procedures.
Purpose of Job
Financial controller with experience of standard costing in a manufacturing or engineering environment. Manage a team of 4 (+) to provide a comprehensive financial reporting and control service for an independent UK engineering company employing 200 people on 4 sites.
Principal Accountabilities
Oversee a finance team of 4 who cover the following functions: o Sales ledger, sales invoicing, credit control o Purchase ledger, 3-way matching o Payroll and employee expenses o Banking – automated and manual payments, receipts, petty cash, credit cards, foreign exchange o Monthly management accounts to trial balance, reconciliations, etc. o PAYE, VAT, Intrastat, CT61, P11d, etc.
Oversee HR – one full time professional assistant
Oversee Quality compliance – team of 3
Prepare and present management information, including: o Liaise with board members and managers to prepare and present an annual budget o Prepare monthly management accounts and report on variances to budget o Prepare monthly rolling 12-month forecast P&L, balance sheets and funds flow
Treasury o Monitor and control cash flow o Manage multi-currency bank accounts and loan accounts o Manage HP & lease financing for assets (machinery, cars, etc.) o Manage FX hedging o Liaise with banks – reporting, limits, covenants, etc.
Audit & control o Manage the annual financial audit, agree timing with and prepare schedules for auditors o Maintain appropriate cost standards for valuation of stock and evaluating cost of sales o Monitor “Priority” ERP system to ensure transactional integrity o Monitor stock control and valuation processes o Investigate variances o Take ownership of the control of the stock ledger, fixed asset register and balance sheet in general.
Insurance o Liaise with brokers o Negotiate premiums o Submit and manage claims General o Interpret and explain financial information to board members and management colleagues o Conduct ad-hoc investigations as required o Maintain, update and improve the company’s financial reporting & control systems o Identify and suggest improvements in the wider business
Candidate Profile
This position requires an accounting qualification and membership of a professional accounting body
Strong financial accounting skills and 8+ years’ experience Full Accountancy qualification or equivalent () Standard costing, manufacturing or engineering experience Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems (we operate “Priority17” – specific knowledge of this system is not expected) Presentational and analytical skills – advanced Excel capability is essential
