The Debt and Credit Control Manager will take ownership of the debt strategy and performance for the growing customer base, both domestic and business customers. The role will have responsibility for overseeing day-to-day performance of credit control, having both ‘hands-on’ involvement in the customer interactions and debt path performance and a broader strategic role in shaping their approach to managing debt risk. As part of a small but growing team, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute across a range of activities with enthusiasm and flexibility, engaging with the both internal team and external service providers and ultimately contributing towards the success of the business.
Responsibilities:
- Working alongside Billing, Operations and Finance, develop and enhance a range of appropriate debt recovery paths from initial default through to resolution, embedding into systems and processes into the business
- Develop insightful debt reporting suite that allows performance to be tracked regularly, effectiveness of debt paths to be monitored and risks to be identified and tackled
- Engage with and drive external service partners to maximise performance on debt recovery and cash collection
- Support collections activity with direct customer contact where appropriate
- Develop and deploy business intelligence on customer credit risk to improve effectiveness of debt paths and to mitigate the business’s exposure through improving customer acquisition/management processes
- Ensure compliance of policies and processes with the requirements placed on the business for Vulnerable Customers
- Develop and document credit control policies and procedures to ensure a balance between fair treatment of customers, protection of the business’s interests and meeting all regulatory requirements
Experience, Qualifications & Key Attributes
- Experienced credit controller ideally with exposure to the energy and/or utility sectors
- Has had operational responsibility for debt collection activity ideally across both domestic and commercial customers
- Demonstrable success in shaping and/or improving the strategies for collection of arrears
- Familiar and comfortable with direct customer contact, capable of representing the business in a professional manner
- Ideally familiar with working with outsourced partners, and able to build effective relationships with third parties
- Excellent analytical skills, comfortable in working with data to drive insight
- A confident communicator
- The ability to thrive in a “hands-on” and flexible environment
- Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines
