The National Union of Teachers, the largest teaching union in England and Wales with annual revenues of over £40 million has an exciting opportunity for an experienced qualified accountant to lead their Finance Team.
The Head of Finance will ensure the smooth efficient running of the finance team with responsibility for all aspects of statutory reporting, management accounting, business partnering, budgeting and forecasting. This role will be the most senior within the finance team, reporting directly to the Director of Business Services, and the post holder will be a member of the senior management team. You will have three direct reports and overall responsibility for a further six staff. As Head of Finance you will oversee the third party administration of the staff pension scheme, payroll, purchasing, charging for the Unions’ commercial activities and have responsibility for overseeing the Union’s investment policies. There is opportunity to make an impact on the systems and processes of the organisation with projects such as a system upgrade of SUN on the agenda. You will also provide a business partnering service to budget holders and increase commercial awareness across the organisation.
The successful candidate will be a qualified accountant who is able to advise the Director of Business Services and other senior colleagues and the Union’s Executive on all financial matters. You must demonstrate a solid professional track record with proven experience of managing a finance team. The post is ideally suited to a well-motivated professional with sound management experience. You will have good communication, interpersonal and organisational skills, as well as being supportive of the aims of the trade union movement.
The NUT offer good conditions including a commencing salary of £64,584 pa, a contributory final salary pension scheme, annual leave of 31½ days increasing to 36½ days with long service plus additional days after some bank/public holidays and at Christmas/New Year.
