Detailed Job Description

The Head of Finance will lead the finance and administration functions and support the senior management team by ensuring that the necessary financial systems and controls are in place to produce accurate financial and management information. You will produce and manage the company's budgets and forecasts making recommendations to the Managing Director on all financial matters as and when necessary. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • The production of Annual Budgets and to ensure adherence to these thereafter
  • The production of monthly management information for the executive team and bankers
  • Monitoring cashflow and production of rolling forecasts
  • Compliance with regulatory requirements in respect of direct and indirect taxes
  • Overseeing the production of VAT returns for the group
  • Contribution to strategic planning and development of the company's business to include financial appraisals for proposed acquisitions/disposals
  • Working with the Managing Director and specialist teams on tenders in order to ensure best suppliers at most effective cost
  • Maintaining and developing a computerised accounting system, making recommendations for improvements/upgrades as necessary
  • Overseeing all day to day financial and accounting activities including purchase, sales and nominal ledgers
  • The management, motivation and development of financial and reception/administration staff
  • Liaison with external auditors in relation to the verification of magazine circulations and annual statutory accounts
  • Management of monthly payroll together with pension contributions
  • Overseeing the financial management of the Spanish subsidiary
  • Managing Health and Safety as applicable to premises and staff

Candidate's Profile

The successful candidate will be an ACA / CIMA / ACCA qualified finance professional. You will be able to provide a track record of performing effectively in a broad role in an SME environment. You will also be able to demonstrate:
