Director of Finance & Resources

Totnes, South Devon

Circa £85,000

The Dartington Hall Trust (Dartington) is a unique collection of charitable and social enterprise activities based around a 1200 acre medieval estate. Established by visionary philanthropists Dorothy and Leonard Elmhirst in the 1920s, today we have an income of £13m and welcome more than 650,000 people each year from across the world to take part in our wide range of activities.

Dartington is many things to many people but one aim underpins everything; how we use our estate to stimulate new thinking and action to help develop a more sustainable, just and enriching world.

We are currently going through a time of significant transformation under the leadership of our new Chair and Chief Executive. We are working towards a new long-term vision and strategy to regenerate Dartington as an international experiment in living and learning, with the purpose of pioneering personal and societal change.  This is underpinned by our founders’ concept of ‘a many-sided life’ and by deep human and ecological values.

As Director of Finance & Resources, you’ll report to the Chief Executive as a full member of our senior leadership team. You’ll ensure we have robust strategies and systems across our Finance, HR and IT teams, leading your experienced managers to deliver first class services and providing our Trustees with assurance.

However, we are looking for much more than a good manager of corporate services. It is crucial that you share our passion for creating a better world. Whilst we need you to bring corporate discipline, challenge and accountability, we also need you to be entrepreneurial, creative, enabling and ambitious to effect societal change.

Your key challenge will be to create financial sustainability within this creative, complex and multi faceted environment, something that the right candidate should find exciting, invigorating and rewarding.

You’ll need to be a qualified accountant with strong leadership skills and experience across a broad range of environments. You’ll be commercially astute, able to manage complexity, bold and ambitious.

In return, we offer you the chance to join us at a time of great strategic change and the opportunity to play your part in our exciting journey, in the knowledge that our success will mean you having a tangible impact on improving people’s lives.

For further information please contact James Stephens at Morgan Law Executive Resourcing. Closing Date for applications will be midnight on Tuesday 7th February.
