Senior Indirect Tax Accountant

Sellick Partnership has been engaged to recruit a Senior Indirect Tax Accountant for a very successful and fast-growing service company based in South Manchester. Due to an internal promotion we are looking for an ambitious first or second time mover from practice or someone coming from a similar accounting background.

Responsible for compliance and accounting of the excise duty liabilities for specific excise terminals and compliance and accounting of the VAT liabilities of the company's operations, including supervision of the VAT activities in the Duty team in support of the Indirect Tax Manager.

A full job specification is available on request but general duties will include:-

• Responsibility for ensuring compliance of excise duty data collection, review, consolidation, preparation and payment of monthly duty liability.

• Responsibility for ensuring accuracy and completeness of accounting for excise duty in the general ledger in accordance with business timetable.

• Ownership of process for the preparation, validation and submission of monthly Intrastat and ESCL for all VAT registered group companies in compliance with the relevant regulations.

• Hosting workshops and in-house training courses for various stakeholders to enhance understanding of industry tax rules and regulations.

• Provide cover to Indirect Tax Manager on a range of activities covering compliance review, analysis and ad-hoc activities.

• Responsibility for ensuring any changes in the business impacting indirect Tax are understood and the appropriate actions plan put in place to ensure correct reporting and compliance.

• Building and maintaining strong working relationships with all excise duty & VAT stakeholders.

• Development and implementation of continuous improvement plan to drive increased quality, efficiency and exceed customer expectations.

• Being the trusted expert on all financial aspects and to be ready to be called on as required by both finance colleagues and the wider business.

The successful applicant will be a qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) with a first rate academic record making your first/second move from practice (Top10) or coming from a similar role within commerce and industry coupled with 4 years European VAT experience.

You will be a team player with an inquisitive and challenging approach, an exceptional analytical ability and a willingness to take ownership. A strong communicator who possess an ability to develop trusting and credible relationships at all levels of the business. A leader with experience of developing junior team members.

You will be highly analytical with the ability to analyse and interpret significant quantities of financial data and relate back to business issues. MS Excel - Intermediate level or above, to be able to manipulate efficiently large amount of data is essential.

This role requires an ambitious proactive individual who has eexcellent technical accounting knowledge with strong interpersonal, communication, numerical and analytical skills.

You will have the ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external finance/non finance stakeholders. You will be highly IT literate, especially on Excel and have accuracy and attention to detail.
