My client, a leading business with a national presence and associations with many major brands, is currently looking to appoint a Group Financial Controller reporting directly to the Finance Director.

This role is newly created following a recent restructure that will pave the way for solid strategic growth and further acquisitions in 2017.

The focus of the role will include:

  • Managing the group finance team and helping to provide financial oversight to other central functions
  • Implementing best practice governance and ensuring there are mechanisms in place to ensure standards are maintained
  • To help implement and manage effective financial controls across the group

Key duties and responsibilities will include:

  • To ensure adequate policies and procedures are in place across the finance function and that they are being adhered to
  • Review controls within the finance function and strengthen where necessary. Ensure there is a clear month end process and all accounts are reconciled on a timetabled basis
  • Review and strengthen controls over key areas of spend across the Group including sales costs, purchasing, travel and expenses
  • Assist the Finance Director in developing a Group Accounting Policy Manual and ensuring compliance across the group
  • Manage all statutory reporting including management of audit process, preparing published accounts, interim statements, group consolidation, subsidiary accounts and all filing requirements
  • Manage working capital, including preparation of weekly cash forecasts and ensure appropriate controls are in place for purchaser payments
  • Assist the Finance Director to manage relationship with tax authorities and ensuring compliance with all tax legislation and filings, including income taxes. PAYE, VAT, SAYE and share options
  • Review and analysis of monthly management accounts
  • Assist the Finance Director in preparing and, more importantly, improving the information contained in the Monthly Board Report

Qualifications and experience required:

  • Qualified accountant who ideally has PQE with a top tier firm
  • Strong analytical ability with an eye for detail and accuracy but also with the ability to take a broader view as required
  • Technically strong with a high level of awareness of IFRS and UK GAAP
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management in head office and across the group, able to explain complex financial information in a clear way to non-financial colleagues
  • Ability to develop solutions to complex problems and identify and implement process improvements
