As a Finance face of our Fresh Foods business unit, you’ll help us achieve the fine balance between doing what’s best for customers as well as the numbers. You’ll be a true business partner, working with the Trading team, buyers and category managers to help them understand how products are performing. You’ll be doing more than informing our business direction too. You’ll also be enabling millions of people around the country to eat more healthily, and keep their finances in better shape.

While you will have a few reporting responsibilities, the majority of your work will be on an ad hoc basis - from forecasting to advising on the business benefits of promotions and investments. You’ll enjoy a lot of variety. And, with involvement in complex strategic projects, you’ll have exposure to various senior stakeholders including the business unit director. As you build your expertise and your profile, you’ll become the ‘go to’ expert as the Finance lead in Fresh Foods. It’s a role that gives you plenty of autonomy, and the opportunity to shape your own career. You will also be responsible for one direct report, ensuring that their career grows and develops at Sainsbury’s.

Ideally you’ll already have retail experience, but it’s not essential. As long as you’ve got a commercial mindset and a sound understanding of what drives sales and profit. An inquisitive, proactive, ‘out of the box’ thinker, you should be ready to embrace and drive change. You should also be able to deal with a range of stakeholders and opinions, and confident to challenge where needed.
