My client is a Global energy business based in West London. They are looking to a Financial Controller. The role provides strong support to the Chief Operating Officer in the area of financial control, pensions risk management, budget tracking, performance measurement and provision of management information to support delivery of the Operating Plan.


The role requires a self-starter, ideally a qualified accountant, pensions experience and fluent in financial presentation and interpretation of data. The successful incumbent will also need to ensure a high standard of written work and fluent in the use of excel, access and PowerPoint. * Coordinate standardised reporting of KPIs in management reporting for Board and Committee meetings covering administration, investment, funding and the covenant
* Maintain monthly risk dashboard and matrices and prepare risk reports for Board meetings
* Monitor operational and compliance risk including associated reporting of investment and administration processes
* Prepare the annual budget and Operating Plan for the Fund and Board approval
* Review invoices, monitor actual costs against budget every month, produce variance analysis; identify trends and interventions to COO. Organise quarterly team budget reviews
* Support the COO in coordinating the relationship with the external EY Partner and Group Audit in all Fund accounting and audit matters.
Working with BPIM and BPPL, lead the process to prepare the Fund Annual Report and Accounts and associated Audit Committee and Board paper sign-off including tracking reports against identified Audit actions by EY and/or Group Audit in the Management Letters
* Ensure the appropriate investment and risk disclosures accord with the current Pensions Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP)

* Experience in key areas of Pensions (Defined Benefit and DC schemes; Finance: Accounting & Reporting, Compliance, Planning & Control
* Experience in other finance disciplines such as planning and performance, strategy, or other commercial role
* Demonstrates awareness of control, risk management policies and processes in investment management and administration and applies these successfully to specific business situations
* Understands financial and accounting information, both published and internal
* Aware of the principles and standards on which accounts are based and able to apply this knowledge in a pensions context
* Evidence of procurement, negotiation of legal contracts, evaluation and monitoring of external advisers
* Experience of dealing with senior management confidently and assertively
* Evidence of project and change management (multiple stakeholders) experience
