Group Tax Reporting Manager
Our listed client is looking to bring in an experienced Tax Reporting specialist into the established in-house tax function. Reporting to the Group Head of Tax you will own the tax reporting and compliance process, and provide support in the mangement of the Group's tax function and with ad hoc projects.
Key objectives are to include:
Ownership of the UK corporate tax compliance processes
- Ensure the UK group's corporation tax returns are accurately prepared and submitted on time.
- Management of third party providers responsible for tax return preparation and capital allowance reviews.
- Management of local teams to ensure accurate and appropriate information is provided.
- Ensure all tax payments are calculated and made on time.
- Develop and implement improvements to the UK compliance processes. Ensure appropriate tax controls and internal procedures are adhered to.
- Maintain SAO and CbCR documentation.
- Liaise with HMRC, as required, to respond to and resolve enquiries.
- Provide assistance to staff on all queries relating to UK corporation tax.
Management of the Group Tax Accountant
- Management of the Group Tax Accountant to ensure all outputs are produced to the required standard and in accordance with timetables and statutory deadlines.
- Ensure appropriate staff training, development and coaching is in place, such that the staff have full ownership of their remit and are able to utilize their full potential, as well as to enable succession planning.
Management of tax related financial reporting processes
- Manage the consolidated group year end reporting process, supporting junior staff in their respective roles.
- Manage the review of tax packs produced by the UK and overseas entities and raise queries to sites as appropriate.
- Preparation of year-end disclosures for the consolidated accounts.
- Management of the tax processes for the UK statutory accounts.
- Take responsibility for budgeting and forecasting in accordance with timetable.
- Keep updated with tax reporting initiatives and best practice. Seek to continually improve efficiency and effectiveness of financial reporting processes.
Other duties
- Assist in managing the group's tax function in absence of the Head of Tax.
- Undertake other tasks as directed by the Group Head of Tax, International Tax
- Manager Group Financial Controller or CFO.
- Provide assistance on ad-hoc projects and undertake financial information requests as and when required.
- Support the wider Merlin finance community wherever required , including in strategic initiatives and with visits to sites around the Merlin estate, providing support, trouble-shooting problems and resolving questions between group finance and the operations.
To succeed, the essential knowledge & skills are..
- IFRS and UK GAAP knowledge.
- Group tax role in industry; or worked for tax department in Big 4 accountancy firm dealing with complex corporate structures.
- Strong team player with management experience.
- Excellent interpersonal skills - able to communicate well to people at all levels and confidently explain issues to senior management.
