Location: Harrogate with occasional London and clinic travel

 

Role Summary:

A Finance Director role for an expanding £20m turnover privately owned business that specialises in the healthcare sector. The company employs circa 190 staff and has over ten clinics nationwide and their very own specialist hospital in London.

The Finance Director is a new position with MYA and will be a key member of the senior management team.

Working closely with the Managing Director to maintain and improve an effective and fully responsive finance function. You will be responsible for managing a small finance team with overall control of the company's accounting function and providing financial advice to the Managing Director and other employees.

You will also be responsible for overseeing the financial performance of the business, its working capital and contributing to the business plan to ensure ongoing success, highlighting opportunities for improving performance and profit optimisation.

A prerequisite is a successful track record of building and managing a financially sustainable organisation. You will have the ability and knowledge to successfully manage teams towards the delivery of key goals whilst displaying tenacity, resilience, resourcefulness and a collaborative approach.

 

Key Tasks & Accountabilities:

This is a broad role within a small management team so responsibilities will extend across the business. Key tasks include but are not restricted to:

  • Contributing to the development of the business strategy
  • Appreciating and influencing the values of the business
  • Challenging the status quo and championing a culture of continuous improvement to maximise quality and profits and reduce costs
  • Providing leadership to the company's finance and accounting strategy to optimise financial performance
  • Statutory reporting including taxation, annual report and accounts
  • Providing financial analysis and guidance to the Managing Director, challenging assumptions and decision making as appropriate
  • Overall finance team leadership; establishing excellent ongoing working relationships with team via recruitment, training and effective communication.
  • To effectively manage the performance of the team by carrying out progress reviews and ensuring objectives and key outputs are cascaded throughout the team
  • To develop staff to appropriate standards.
  • Ensuring that company financial control frameworks remain robust, compliant and support future growth.
  • Overseeing effective cash flow forecasting and management
  • Supporting the Managing Director when required to ensure that all contractual agreements are robust and adhered to.
  • Ensuring Adequate financial controls exist in all areas of the business
  • Overall responsibility for the annual budget process
  • Liaising with Company Auditors and professional advisors, maintaining awareness of financial regulations. Managing strong working relationships with external parties including the bank and HMRC
  • Working with the Managing Director and investors on the business strategy, towards the profitable growth and operation of the company

 

Additional Responsibilities

  • Promote and adhere to the organisation's culture and values.
  • The FD will be required to cover the duties of our Finance Controller whilst she is on maternity leave
  • To be aware of, adhere to, and implement any legislative requirements consistent with overall duties of this post, about Health and Safety policies and procedures, Data Protection Act 1998 and Equal Opportunities.
  • To undergo relevant training and development required by the Managing Director
  • To carry out any other tasks that will, from time to time be allocated by the Managing Director on an Ad Hoc or continuing basis, commensurate with the general level of responsibility of the post.

 

Desirable Skills & Qualifications

  • Proven experience of budget preparation, setting, monitoring and financial forecasting, preparing and presenting financial and management accounts.
  • ACA, ACCA or CIMA fully qualified
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience at a senior level (director or deputy.)
  • Significant experience in direct management, supervision of a finance and control of a minimum £10m turnover operation.
  • Commercially astute, articulate, technically strong and an influential leader with the ability to operate at both strategic and operational levels
  • An excellent communicator.
  • Strong IT skills and computer literate, knowledge of Microsoft operating systems (Excel, Word, Dynamics)
  • Ability to handle high levels of pressure and critical decision making. High integrity and openness combined with commitment to good governance
  • Energetic and highly motivated with an enquiring mind and passion for excellence and innovation in pursuit of business growth and success
