Head of Tax
Our client is a large UK retail business based in Hampshire.
Role Purpose:
To lead PAYE, VAT and Corporation Tax compliance for all trading of our client, providing best practice advice on all VAT matters.
Role Objectives:
- To lead a team of tax professionals undertaking day to day tax compliance
- To provide all aspects of technical and developmental support to the tax team
- To review all VAT and Corporation tax returns for the above entities and finalise for submission to tax authorities
- Devise and implement a robust programme of tax risk control reviews across the business
- To support the implementation and ongoing operation of the Offer and Supply Chain (OSC) entity in the UK and ensure that we maintain our compliance with the relevant tax authorities
- To ensure Transfer Pricing arrangements between entities are compliant with the relevant tax legislations.
- To support the UK Trading Operating Companies with the tax implications of business decisions and recommend efficient tax structures and best practice solutions
- To anticipate and assess industry developments and legislation changes and deliver solutions
- To provide high level technical support to the Customs and International Trade function
- To support the HR function maintain a robust control framework in the area of PAYE and NIC compliance ensuring compliance with requirements of SAO legislation
- To provide technical support and expertise on international and practical VAT matters across the entire Group
- To support the Group Tax Director in leading and managing the Group Tax Function
Essential skills:
- Broad and comprehensive level of expertise in all areas of UK and Ireland tax
- Specialist retail experience
- Ability to work independently
- Good communication skills
Knowledge and experience:
- Solid understanding of accounting principles and the impacts on taxation matters
- Experience of leading and training more junior tax specialists
- Customer focused in all deliverables
- Technically up to date and aware of industry and legislative changes
- Drives change, works with others to improve control environment and compliance
- Assesses tax risk and balances with commercial aspirations
- Experience of managing relationships with external tax authorities
- Project/task management skills
Minimum level of education or qualifications:
- Degree qualification
- ACA / ACCA qualification as well as CTA specialist tax qualification
- Significant post qualification experience ideally in a retail environment
