This is a high profile Finance Business Partner opportunity working at the Burscough Manufacturing facility. Working as part of the local leadership team, for a major site within the UK Packaging business of DS Smith PLC. Reporting to the Business Unit Managing Director, you will provide financial analysis and insight across every aspect of the business to help develop the strategic and financial priorities and drive the financial business performance.

This is an opportunity to join the Finance team for the UK Packaging business with a significant focus collectively on effective business partnering to drive performance.

Detailed Job Description

As the Finance Business Partner located at the Burscough Manufacturing Plant; within the UK Packaging division, this is a key role, reporting to the Business Unit Managing Director. Working as part of the local leadership team, the Finance Business Partner, will provide financial analysis and insight across every aspect of the business to facilitate change. You will help to develop the strategic and financial priorities, which drive the overall financial business performance of the Plant.

You will be expected to create and present insightful and detailed analysis of financial performance and be able to influence and initiate change to ensure that key operational and financial targets are delivered. Understanding how and where the business creates value and promoting a culture of commercial excellence will be essential to success in the role.

As the Finance Business Partner, you will drive and support the delivery of change and will need to anticipate and understand the implications of risks and opportunities. You will also need to identify and present the range of potential outcomes and scenarios to support decision making by the Plant leadership team.

Identifying the costs and benefits of key business initiatives, including capital investment appraisals, commercial tenders, procurement strategies and operational efficiency programmes will also be required. It will be your responsibility to advise on efficiency and productivity improvements and to ensure the business operates within the overall DS Smith governance framework.

Candidate's Profile

For this Finance Business Partner opportunity in Burscough, the successful candidate must have/be:

  • Degree educated and a qualified accountant (ACA/CIMA/ACCA). 
  • Some manufacturing sector experience is essential.
  • Ideally you will have experience of business partnering and you must be able to demonstrate strong analytical and planning skills combined with a commercial outlook. 
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to see the value in the information provided and with the influencing skills to drive change and to challenge effectively.
  • Knowledge of SAP would be advantageous. 
  • The ability to simplify financial systems and processes and making reporting systems relevant.
  • Good people leadership skills and excellent relationship management skills to work effectively within the region, as well as with the Shared Service Centre and the wider Group.
