College of Policing

Head of Finance

London

Competitive Salary

About us:

The College of Policing has been created to become a world class professional body for all in policing. It equips members with the skills and knowledge to prevent crime, protect the public and inspire public trust. It sets standards, promotes good practice within policing as well as defining ethics, values and standards of integrity.

We have four complementary functions:

  • Knowledge: developing the research and infrastructure for improving evidence of 'what works'. Over time, this will ensure policing practice and standards are based on knowledge, not custom and convention.
  • Education: supporting the development of individual members of the profession. We set educational requirements to assure the public of the quality and consistency of policing skills, and facilitate academic accreditation and recognition of our members' expertise.
  • Standards: drawing on the best available evidence of 'what works' to set standards in policing for forces and individuals, for example, through Authorised Professional Practice and peer review.
  • Building the College: developing our infrastructure so we achieve even greater efficiency and effectiveness and establish the College as an independent professional body and employer of choice.

A company limited by guarantee, the College's complex £75 million resource funding is currently predominantly Government funded Grant in Aid.  We are now looking for a Head of Finance with vision, leadership and creativity who will play a leading role in setting its strategic financial direction and securing the College's long-term success.

Directly accountable to the Director of Corporate Services, the Head of Finance will lead our finance function with responsibility for financial planning, financial and management accounting and decision support in a developing environment.  In doing so you will provide support to Board members and the Executive.

With experience preferably of both private and public sector financial management, you will need to be both strategically minded and technically excellent with strong business acumen and well developed analytical skills.

As the Head of Finance you will lead the finance function and be comfortable in effectively leading and managing a finance team, shaping and influencing their future direction and performance. The ability to develop relationships quickly, and constructively challenge stakeholders across the business will be crucial in this role.

This is an interesting opportunity to make a valuable and genuine contribution to the development of the College of Policing.
