Role Purpose:

To be a member of the finance senior management team reporting directly into the Chief Financial Officer with responsibility for leading the statutory and regulatory reporting teams, together with responsibility for the implementation of the Line 1 risk activities including the implementation of the FRR controls framework. 

This is a strategic role with ownership of the external and internal statutory and regulatory reporting metrics and working to ensure all external stakeholders understand and use the reporting in strategic and operational decision-making. 

Together with the rest of the finance senior management team, responsibility for considering and implementing departmental strategy and ensuring that the different teams within the department are proactively working together to make the department as efficient as possible.  Also, proactively addressing the issues from the Employee Engagement Survey for Finance to improve engagement with the team. 

Leading a team of technical accountants and controls specialists to complete all statutory and regulatory reporting requirements, both internal and external, within a robust control environment.  Support, as required, the statutory and regulatory impact of acquisitions and manage any statutory and regulatory integration activity.

Developing internal relationships with the actuarial and group reporting functions to ensure effective and timely reporting is completed.  Developing external relationships with the auditors, regulators and appropriate industry bodies.

Working alongside the Exec members, managing and developing key relationships within the business and wider Group to ensure objectives are aligned and managed within deadlines.

Demonstrate a clear understanding of business drivers, risks and operating metrics to fully support MT members and business area heads and ensure financial risks are managed in an effective manner.

Act as an Ambassador for finance and lead on Strategic/Finance issues, driving the business forward and ensuring risks are mitigated in a pro-active manner.

Ensure all systems and reporting are fit for purpose, robust and efficient, implementing improvements and enhancements to ensure reporting is accurate and timely and deadlines are met.

Ensure all job objectives are completed in accordance with the company’s TCF, Governance culture and meet all Company financial standards. 

Skills and Experience Required:

  •   Excellent communication skills ability to articulate complex financial matters to Executive members and Senior management team
  •   Strategic thinker ability to review at high level and be involved in detail when required
  •   Professional with gravitas to challenge executive and senior management teams
  •   Methodical approach to all issues in achieving the right outcomes from both a financial and commercial perspective
  •   Ability to work in a team or independently consulting and involving others
  •   Strong analytical financial management skills
  •   Strong Excel skills, e.g. Pivot tables, vlookups and general IT skills, e.g. Word and Powerpoint
  •   Working in a large matrix organisation understanding the local and group wide objectives
  •   Full P&L and balance sheet reporting and business planning procedures
  •   Full operating knowledge of general ledger systems including data entry, procurement, journal preparation and the extraction of reports
  •   Staff management tools and performance management procedures
  •   Project management and appraisal including benefits realisation
  •   Life assurance and pensions accounting
  •   A qualified member of CCAB body with at least 5 years post qualification experience
  •   Experience of building relationships across the organisation at all levels
  •   Working within a change/project environment
  •   Experience of working within a regulatory environment
  •   Implementing new financial systems and processes
