Cambridge, United Kingdom - Our client is a high profile, reputable business based in Cambridge and is a leader in their field. Due to a recent restructure, a newly created vacancy has arisen for a Group Financial Controller.

Reporting to the Finance Director, the Group Financial Controller will be the senior management lead for the finance function and will be responsible for leading the overall activities of the finance team, comprising of c60 staff. This is a high-profile role within the organisation and the successful candidate should have the ability and ambition to progress into the Finance Director role in the future. 

Operating within a matrix structure, duties include;

*  Leadership & functional governance oversight of the five divisional Heads of Finance and their embedded finance support teams which support the operating divisions
*  Full responsibility & accountability for developing, maintaining & monitoring compliance in respect of group wide financial policies, procedures & governance structures
*  Managing the activities of the core finance team, comprising of; financial reporting, governance & compliance, business partnering & shared service AP/AR teams
*  Acting as the focal point & lead for all ongoing finance business system improvement and enhancement projects.

In addition, the Group Financial Controller will develop & maintain succession planning, talent mapping and the personal/professional development framework for all functional employees as well as deputise for the Finance Director.

Interested candidates will need to have experience of working in a complex business at a senior management level and will be a fully qualified chartered (or equivalent) accountant. You will have prior experience of building and enhancing a suite of management financial reporting which adds value and assists the business in achieving its operational goals by providing more effective decision making. The role requires someone who is commercially astute, however, you will also need to possess a good level of technical skills.  Interested candidates will either be currently fulfilling a Group Financial Controller position within a larger, complex organisation or alternatively, a Finance Director within an SME.
