Finance Director

Sellick Partnership has been engaged on an exclusive basis to recruit a Finance Director for a successful and growing importer / wholesale distributor business based in Manchester. This role is available at an exciting time and the successful candidate will play a major part in the company's current business growth project. This is a broad and all-encompassing role within a growing organisation which has recently had a sizable investment.

The role

Reporting into the MD and working closely with the Commercial and Operational Directors/Managers, you will be expected to have input into the strategic direction of the business. This is a true number one role and an opportunity to influence the company direction in all aspects.

The post holder will undertake all aspects of financial management of the company including financial and management accounting, financial and commercial reporting, budget and forecasts preparation and financial planning. You will work closely with the board to improve profitability by identifying and tackling inefficiencies and advising on the impact of commercial trends and operational decisions. Due to the nature of the business you will be heavily involved with the treasury matters especially the management of currency exchanges/hedging/FOREX.

This role is also responsible for IT and HR as well as a small finance team which you will be required to develop and mentor as well as being a hands on member of the finance function. The role will involve building internal and external relationships and you will be required to liaise with the banks and other stakeholders. Due to the nature of the business you will be dealing with multiple companies and be responsible for consolidated results and information.

The person

The successful applicant will be a qualified accountant (ACA or ACCA or CIMA) who has experience within a similar role within an SME and has been part of an import/export, FMCG, service, distribution, wholesale, retail or travel sector.

This is a hands on role and would suit a Divisional Finance Director / Head of Finance from a larger firm looking for their first number one role or an experienced Finance Director looking for a new challenge.

The ideal candidate should be commercially astute, and able to identify key trends, risks and opportunities within the business. A proven track record of driving improvements and cost savings is desirable. Experience of producing management accounts (budgets, forecasts, revenues) and have the ability to work under your own initiative and also operate as part of a wider team.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a good understanding of strategic, commercial and operational activities and have a proven track record of influencing and working with stakeholders to deliver objectives. You will be highly numerate, and able to work with complex data, from multiple sources, in different formats, to provide concise and meaningful commercial information to aid the decision making. In addition, it would be desirable that you have experience of currency/hedging/FOREX and can provide evidence of savings.

You will have strong written and verbal communication skills, with continuous improvement in mind, and the ability to motivate oneself, and others, to deliver a high standard of work to agreed timetables, evaluate progress and implement corrective action. You must have strong analytical skills, be organised and able to present conclusions to support decision-making. Managerial experience is important to this role.
