Financial Controller

My client is one of the world's fastest growing footwear brands and over 2.5 years has become one of the fastest growing companies in the UK, multi-award winning and global. Shipping direct to customers in over 70 countries, they are pioneering a new way of doing retail.

They are looking for an interim financial controller to join the team whilst they refine the role and seek a permanent member of the team. This is likely to be an initial 3 month assignment.

You'll be working as the sole finance individual in the overall team and working with outsourced suppliers. They don't plan to expand the finance team internally.

You'll be working with NetSuite as the accounting system and this is integrated with our other systems.

They are selling online only and you'll be dealing with consolidated payments from gateways v individual payments.

Accounting/ Controller - 30% of time on weekly basis

• Management of outsourced (big 4 accountant) book-keeper  - ensure quality and delivery to SLA
• Escalation point to resolve supplier and book-keeper queries e.g invoices details, approvals
• Implement controls to ensure valid data e.g. vat coding, GL codes
• Payment - verify and set up (weekly) payment runs for supplier invoices, payroll, tax etc

Reporting - 20% of time on monthly basis

• Management of same big 4 accountant to produce monthly report
• Gather data and provide to accountant for reporting
• Ensure correct allocation of costs
• Build controls to check costs and allocations
• Verify report before issuing internally
• Compliance - project
• Build and monitor timetable for submissions/ returns
• Management of same big 4 accountant to submit
• Direct submission of some returns
• Research and ensure awareness and adherence of relevant regulations

System - project; 30% of time on weekly basis

• Monitor implementation of NetSuite
• Ensure good practice usage
• Ensure good data quality and identify exceptions and errors
• Commercial - ad hoc and developing over time
• Support of forecasting & budget process
• Pricing and margin analysis
• Project and investment evaluation

Candidate Profile

• Qualification - ACA or CIMA qualified accountant or equivalent
• Academic - 1st or 2:1 at Russell Group UK university or equivalent
• Experience of UK-based online retail including associated tax and compliance
• Computer skills specifically in Excel/ Google sheets and accounting systems
• Systems mindset focused on process and automation of finance function
