Your new role

An outstanding new career opportunity has arisen for a first rate Assistant Director – Corporate Finance, a high profile role reporting to the Chief Financial Officer and acting as a key member of the force senior leadership team.  This critical position ensures the strategic goals and objectives of South Wales Police are reflected in the Financial Strategy and Plan and provides strategic leadership, vision, management and direction in the implementation of both.

 Key responsibilities include:

  • To support the delivery of the Strategic Goals and objectives of South Wales Police through the provision of strategic financial information and financial control

  • To strategically manage the Corporate Finance Department effectively and efficiently, acting as ambassador for this innovative finance function

  • Ensure the production of all financial and management accounts, tax reporting, payroll, purchase ledger and debtor invoices are in accordance with approved timescales and statutory requirements

  • To provide high quality financial planning and financial management arrangements in line with strategy and value for money objectives

  • Development and implementation of financial strategies/systems

  • To represent the force at a national level and contribute to national developments in corporate finance areas

  • To identify areas for collaboration with other forces and external bodies and lead key developments, shaping outcomes and decisions

  • To identify income generation opportunities and manage effective business relationships

  • To ensure effective stewardship  and financial accountability

What you will need to succeed

You must be an influential, innovative CCAB Qualified Accountant with five years post qualification experience – in addition you must have the ability to:

  • manage complex issues and successfully deliver meaningful outcomes

  • manage complex people management and development services at a tactical, managerial and strategic level

  • manage competing demands for resources

  • lead and manage a large, complex, organisational function

The successful candidate must demonstrate a wide knowledge of accounts, preferably within the Public Sector context – plus a proven track record in:

  • working as a corporate advisor, developing and implementing strategies in an organisation of similar scale or complexity

  • working creatively with senior managers across the organisation to develop and embed strategies into the culture of an organisation

  • leading and managing large teams and promoting and sustaining a positive performance and enabling culture

  • promoting, leading and implementing people development plans and strategies to improve the development of staff and quality of service delivery

  • translating organisational aims and strategies into real achievements and improving corporate standards

  • managing change successfully in a complex and demanding environment
