Chief Technical Accountant

The role will focus on year end and capital accounting in the local government sector


We are recruiting for a public sector organisation in Reading, they need a chief technical accountant for at least 3 months, maybe longer. The role will focus on year end and capital accounting. Local Government sector experience preferred in terms of past experience but will consider Central Government and NHS candidates too; - CCAB-qualified; - ESSENTIAL - extensive experience closing year-end accounts. They are looking for considerable evidence of liaison with external auditors, the ability to produce Primary Statements (Consolidated Income and Expenditure Statement, Balance Sheet and Cashflow Statement) and Notes to the Accounts; -
ESSENTIAL - deep Capital accounting experience. Examples/key terms likely to include management/monitoring of Capital Programme, reconciliation of Fixed Assets Register, Tangible Fixed Assets, Investment Properties, review of Depreciation, Impairment and Revaluation accounting adjustments, Capital Financing, Capital Grants and Capital Receipts; -
ESSENTIAL - self-starter, strong evidence of working unsupervised in an effective manner, lots of partnering/support experience as the role will involve considerable liaison with Finance and non-Finance stakeholders; -
DESIRABLE - IAS19 'Pensions' familiarity; -
DESIRABLE - Housing Revenue Account familiarity; -
DESIRABLE - Whole of Government Accounts (WGA).
