Are you looking for an opportunity to build on your Management Accountancy skills in a challenging and fast moving environment?

Working in close partnership with colleagues in Environment & Infrastructure services (including waste, highways and environment) we provide comprehensive management accounting support and advice - including financial and business planning, supporting transformational projects, production of monthly management accounts and ad hoc reporting, and closure of year end accounts.

The Finance Directorate is part of Orbis, an innovative and exciting public sector partnership formed in 2015 by Surrey and East Sussex County Councils to provide integrated business services to both councils. Orbis is growing, with Brighton and Hove City Council joining the partnership. Our vision is to be "a trusted partnership delivering value to customers and residents through our expertise, innovation and passion".

Some of our key challenges and opportunities include:

  • sustaining the council's financial resilience in the light of reduced government funding and increasing demand
  • driving and supporting service transformation and the achievement of significant savings
  • providing financial advice and challenge to enable the council to carry out its functions effectively and provide value to residents
  • providing clear and transparent financial management information, and helping to raise financial literacy across the council
  • ensuring sound financial stewardship of council resources
  • delivering innovation and efficiency through the council’s partnership with East Sussex County Council, Orbis.

To help us meet these challenges we are looking for someone with:

  • strong communication, relationship building, analytical and problem solving skills
  • up to date knowledge of finance and accounting best practice
  • a track record of proactively seeking and implementing innovative solutions in increasingly challenging times
  • a commitment to providing excellent customer service

You will ideally be a qualified accountant with experience of working within the finance function of a large and complex organisation, and familiarity with Excel and SAP would also be preferable but is not a requirement.

“If you are a finance professional who relishes a challenge and really wants to make a difference, this is an exciting time to join Orbis Finance! Through our expertise, innovation and passion we strive to make the most of every pound, deliver value for money, and improve outcomes for residents.” Sheila Little, Director of Finance for Orbis and Surrey County Council
