Detailed Job Description

  • Primary activity is business partnering and driving optimal business decisions
  • Liaising with business management and group to support or drive business value activities
  • Business Partners also lead Planning, Budgeting & Forecasting outcomes
  • FBPs use insight and analysis generated in the GBS OC, or directly through their interpretation of quality information, to which they have full access to drive optimal business decisions
  • Develop plans and actions with the business to achieve strategy through negotiation, knowledge sharing and offering challenging advice
  • Use insights to advise on decisions to reduce cost, and increase profit and revenue, balancing financial performance with the customer value proposition
  • Use their knowledge of, and insight into, available data, business issues and drivers to advise others on how to generate required reports, analysis and insights
  • Encourage rigour and a financial mind-set for business decision making
  • Supports operational business decisions and advises on action to maximise business value, taking into account wider impacts of decisions
  • Challenges and supports functional leaders to improve performance and manage risks and opportunities
  • Provide a single point of contact for Finance to Line Management Team, report, understand, challenge and track spend
  • Own the financial strategy behind local plans eg a framework around where to invest to achieve the best returns
  • Lead supplier cost reduction programme across all external supplier spend; including finance support for contract extensions and re-tenders
  • Ensure all major business decisions are taken with sufficient understanding of their financial consequences
  • Review and communicate annual Finance Plan and Business Plans for the Line
  • Ensure effective ongoing control of all capital expenditure projects through the establishment of clear project accountability and ownership
  • Provide input and challenge into decision making from both a business and financial perspective
  • Establish effective internal controls within the business and deliver an adequate overall level of internal control

Candidate's Profile

  • Accounting qualification (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) and/or equivalent experience
  • Ability to develop business strategies
  • Strong influencing capability in driving key decisions through to successful conclusions
  • Ability to exercise independent professional judgement within an overall business context
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to distil complex technical information into clear simple messages
  • High level of analytical skills and financially astute
  • Good people manager with ability to build, and contribute to, high performing teams
  • Influential decision making to ensure financial consequences are taken into account
  • Budgetary control and business/financial planning
  • Design and implementation of robust, practical and sustainable internal controls
  • Capital and non-capital project evaluation and control
  • Proven capability to prioritise work, work under pressure and operate to tight deadlines
  • Ability to devise and follow through on profit improvement programmes
  • Provision of leadership with regard to achievement of financial targets and internal control
  • Ability to practically apply accounting regulations
