The Board has identified the need to create a new position for a Financial Controller/ Head of Finance to lead a small team, working closely with the Directors and Senior Leadership team.

You will take ownership and responsibility of the company’s finance function, and will play a vital role in driving the finance team forward.  You will work closely with the team to ensure the accurate and efficient running of the department, meeting deadlines, providing relevant information, and delivering innovative solutions. 

This is a superb opportunity for a highly motivated candidate to understand all areas of the business and contribute towards maximising business revenue and profitability.  The candidate will be responsible for delivering key strategic management information to various stakeholders across the business. Additionally, the role will support the CEO in various duties.

Responsibilities will include, but not be restricted to, the following: -

  • Overall control of the company finance function
  • Presentation of management accounts, providing insightful analysis on the financial performance of the business, commentary on key variances, and potential for opportunities
  • Preparation of Annual Accounts and liaising with auditors on the year-end audit process
  • Establish budgets, and control and monitor expenditure
  • Develop, implement and control strategic Financial plans
  • Supporting the CEO/Shareholders with any ad-hoc projects
  • Maximising revenues and business savings available through effective tax efficiency
  • Develop and manage a team of three within the finance team, managing their workload, output and career progression
  • Main stakeholder for future business funding requirements 
  • Produce and distribute robust and accurate daily, weekly, monthly and, where relevant, transactional, strategic management information.  This should cover agreed strategic KPIs (financial and non-financial) and key reporting areas such as sales, profitability and productivity (e.g. managerial profit and loss analysis; gross margin reports; product cost analysis; order volumes;).
  • Prepare and distribute a detailed monthly forecast pack.
  • Prepare the annual budget pack, including upside and sensitivity analysis, for review by the senior management team.
  • Be familiar with the operating and finance system (Sage 50) and can create reports as required across the company.

The ideal candidate would be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent), with a strong technical grounding and a sound commercial mind-set, able to contribute to the development of the wider business strategy. You will have a focus on accuracy, attention to detail and a hands-on approach to problem solving. Those who have worked within a fast track SME business and have exposure to funding would hold a distinct advantage.
