Farrer Barnes are currently working with a fast-growing multi-academy trust in Stoke-on-Trent who are seeking to appoint an outstanding candidate to provide strong financial and operational leadership, ensuring the efficient delivery of a diverse range of services in support of the school’s educational aims.
The Trust is made of both primary and secondary academies and is focused on bringing more schools into the trust in the coming years.
The successful candidate will be expected to become a key member of the finance team, providing strategic finance support, mentoring and leadership to all aspects of the schools within the Trust. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working within education and a positive personality with the abilty to nurture and support all members of the team.

Job Description
- Advising the Headteacher and Governing Body on general financial policy and providing advice on any financial aspects impacting on strategic decisions in consultation with the Senior Leadership Team, negotiating and preparing the annual budget.
- Preparing and reviewing monthly accounts (actuals vs budgets), cash flow forecasts and balance sheet transactions and presenting regular management reports.
- Keeping the investment policy under review and investing surplus funds in accordance with the policy.
- Organising special appeals and making bids for capital and minor funds. keeping accurate and complete financial records
- Ensuring all aspects of payroll, including PAYE, pensions, NI and benefits in kind are properly administered
- Preparing a one to three year assessment of the future financial performance of the School. income generation (including lettings of premises and facilities, sponsorships etc.)
- Managing the preparation of the year end accounts file and annual reports for the auditors and drafting the statutory accounts in accordance with the Companies Act and SORP.
- Ensuring the preparation of accurate and timely returns to the EfA, HMRC, Companies House and other government departments as required
Person Specification
- Part qualified/Finalist
- Experience in preparing monthly and annual reports for governors and senior management
- Experience in interpreting financial reports and accounting information for management and identifying actions required as a result
- Proven experience of monitoring financial management processes and controls
- Experience of finance relating to an educational setting
