Reporting to the Head of Tax, the role has three main strands to it. The first is the provision of tax support for commercial property transactions as a multi-million pound property business is built. The second is management of the tax compliance and accounting for all of the companies outside of the principle trading group, partnerships and family members, compliance, review and improvements to existing structures. The compliance activities cover all taxes, including corporate tax, income tax, VAT, employment taxes, and stamp duty. The third is providing people management to the Senior Manager's three direct reports - experience of managing people at different stages of their career is preferred.

Principle accountabilities include:

  • Tax lead on commercial core property acquisitions for family investment companies; optimising tax efficiency and acquisition structuring, identifying and managing tax risks, including negotiating tax warranties and indemnities.
  • Develop a strong working relationship with the property and investments teams in order to provide timely advice and solutions to challenges which arise.
  • Take responsibility for ensuring the preparation, review and submission of all tax returns and payments are completed on time and in line with a time efficient process. This includes taking the tax lead on pre-file meetings with HMRC in relation to the corporate entities.
  • Ensure non-UK and intergovernmental tax obligations are met, including managing US tax return compliance, identifying and managing tax compliance obligations in other countries, and managing FATCA compliance.
  • Review the QIP calculations ensuring that they are correct and payments made on time, and manage in year tax provisioning in the wider context.
  • Review tax provisions for management accounts and budgets.
  • Manage the tax accounting process and ensure that all entity and consolidated accounts show appropriate tax figures and disclosure.
  • Oversee VAT compliance and accounting for the entities within the VAT Group, including ensuring partial exemptions calculations are in accordance with the partial-exemption special method agreed with HMRC and the monitoring of the VAT Group and PESM to ensure tax efficiency is optimised. In addition, provide technical support on more complex VAT matters generally across the family office.
  • Review replies to HMRC queries and enquiries, including drafting replies on the more technical aspects.
  • Manage the SAO (Senior Accounting Officer) certification process for the entities within the Group.
  • Continue to build and maintain good relationships with third party advisers to ensure that the best advice is being obtained.
  • Provide support to the Head of Tax any other matters which may arise.
  • Assist the Head of Tax in communicating the impact of changes in tax legislation and tax accounting and identify opportunities which will optimise tax efficiencies.
  • Manage and develop a team of three, supporting them in continuing to build good internal working relationships and ensuring tax returns and computations are right first time.

We are keen to speak with candidates who are qualified (ACA/ACCA and/or CTA) with at least 5 years post-qualification experience with at least three years managerial experience. You will have significant experience of working with HMRC at a senior level, have significant experience in dealing with property transactions and excellent tax technical knowledge across the full suite of taxes, and experience of investment companies is desirable.
