A London based mining business are now seeking the addition of a commercially focused Performance Reporting Analyst to join their Group Finance team.

The department plays a vital role in producing accurate, reliable and meaningful information within a group-wide business performance framework. The team supports the CFO and executive team in understanding the value drivers of the business and in decision making.

The Performance Reporting Analyst plays a pivotal role in supporting the analysis and onward reporting of financial and non-financial data, as well as short term budgeting and forecasting for the Group. The objective is to provide meaningful narrative on the performance of the business to senior management with a view to aiding decision making, including understanding of risks and opportunities.

The team is responsible for producing the consolidated group monthly management accounts and associated reporting for actual, budget and forecast scenarios as well as producing the group statutory accounts at the half year and year end.

The Performance Reporting Analyst uses his/her operational knowledge as well as rigorous financial analysis techniques to draw out insights and trends and to identify critical business issues on data which is flowing from the Business Units to Group.

Key tasks include:
- Preparation of Group management reports (Flash, Group Performance Report, Results slide deck and other reports) for the Board and ExCo, ensuring key issues, trends and value drivers are highlighted
- Providing insightful analysis of BU / Group results which can be used to aid conversation in the Results Presentations with both Business Unit and senior management
- Preparation of periodic monthly phased forecasts and budgets for the Group, identifying sensitivities in respect of the forecasts and budgets as well as reviewing the risks and opportunities to Group results
- Assisting in preparing adhoc analysis as required by the CFO and or Exco to aid decision making
- Liaising effectively with key business contacts and build up strong working relationships (e.g. regularly visit Business Unit operations and head office sites)
- Some valuation and financial modelling work will be required

The successful candidate will ideally have experience of dealing with complex models as well as experience in Investor Relations. You will be working with complexity (e.g. unusual group structures with complex intragroup transactions; data with varying levels of quality) and problem solving as well as analysing and benchmarking of financial/business data

You will be comfortable with ambiguity and a lack of perfect information - competent at making and defending reasonable assumptions to arrive at an answer when information is imperfect or time is limited. Being articulate and succinct communication of key trends, issues and value drivers to senior management, either verbally or in written form (e.g. powerpoint)

Understanding of commercial principles are critical and you will use experience and skill set to quickly grasp complex transactions, processes and or issues and propose relevant, pragmatic solutions. Development of budgets, forecasts and reports with a clear understanding of risk, to inform the business and drive stakeholder activity and an ability to solve. technical and operational problems and applies process design and improvement thinking to drive efficiencies are key. Consequently you must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal and be comfortable in presenting work to senior management.
