Job Purpose and Scope:
- Maternity cover for key member of UK Tax Services Team to carry out range of tax reporting responsibilities and assist the tax function to meet its tax requirements and objectives to start mid-May.
- Perform corporation tax compliance for allocated portfolio of UK entities including construction, finance and investment management entities
- Oversee construction industry scheme compliance
- Assist in preparation of tax forecasts, CT61 interest withholding returns and other direct tax requirements
- Assist in preparation of PAYE Settlement Agreement, Group Payment Arrangements, group relief matrices, Double Tax Treaty claims, Construction Industry Returns and other returns as required
- Assist in VAT compliance and assisting in ad hoc groupwide tax projects as required
Accountabilities:
- Meeting the direct tax obligations of a portfolio of UK entities corporation tax compliance including corresponding with HMRC, business units, auditors and group tax on any enquiries
- Review and finalise the Group tax reporting for European business units
- Identify and monitor tax risks in portfolio of entities
- Provide tax support to the commercial, accounting and tax advisory teams as required
- Continuous education of colleagues to ensure significant tax issues are understood
- Coordinating external advisors in preparing joint venture and Continental European tax returns

Accountable to: Head of Tax Services Europe
Other interfaces: Regional Financial Controller and Finance Team; HMRC; Business Units; Regional tax advisory, Group Tax; Treasury Team
Key Tasks and Activities
Tax Compliance and Reporting for portfolio of group entities including:
- Review tax accounting submissions for construction, investment management and treasury business units and work with accounting teams to finalise detailed half yearly direct tax reporting
- Preparation of tax entries and notes for financial statements of portfolio of entities
- Prepare UK corporation tax and partnership computations
- Reconcile tax computations to statutory account entries and explain differences
- Take executive finance manager through tax returns of key entities in portfolio and obtain their sign off
- Manage joint venture tax returns
- Answer tax queries from HMRC, auditors and group tax
- Assist group tax planning eg allocations of group relief and net interest tax relief;
- Recommending changes to processes, corporate structure or transactions to increase efficiency within business requirements
- Provide tax training to business
- Assist in other projects as required
Technical skills
Competent in researching UK tax treatments from law and practice to suggest corporation tax and tax reporting treatments of unusual items and corporation tax issues. Ability to articulate complex tax issues to non-specialists. Familiarity with IFRS accounting.
Knowledge of CIS, employee tax or VAT, Oracle R12 accounting system or One Source corporation tax &/or One Source Reporting software an advantage.

Essential criteria:
- ACA / CTA or equivalent qualification
- Good understanding of Tax Accounting
- Experience of communicating tax issues and ideas (orally and in writing) to a technical and non-technical audience
- Good Excel skills
- Able to use tax return/ reporting and accounting software.
