Established by an Act of Parliament in 1863, Harwich Haven Authority has a long and rich history.

They are one of five major UK Trust ports responsible for safety of shipping transiting in and out of their ports - including Port of Felixstowe, Harwich International and Ipswich - and managing the stewardship of the environmentally sensitive area that constitutes the Haven ports.

Detailed Job Description

As the Chief Financial Officer you will work with the CEO to develop the strategic business plan of the Authority, reflecting its values and mission whilst ensuring the financial resources are robust, compliant and comprehensively reported.

Further responsibilities will include:

  • Promoting a culture of continuous improvement and high standards across the organisation whilst delivering the business plan.
  • Leading the corporate reporting of business / budgets / capex / KPIs to the highest standard and ensuring they meet all commercial and regulatory requirement.
  • Develop a strategy for the management of all contractual relationships for customers and suppliers ensuring best practice and delivering a robust procurement service that provides value for money and cost efficiencies.
  • Deputize for the Chief Executive as appropriate.
  • Develop and review a borrowing strategy to ensure the Authority utilises best debt structure options and meets covenants.
  • Manage and build relationships with external bodies.
  • Regularly challenge and review the Pension strategy and recovery plans to ensure viability.

Candidate's Profile

The successful Chief Financial Officer will be an individual who will relish the opportunity to work within an integral function of UK's infrastructure for trade.

You will also have:

  • Recent experience as Chief Finance Officer or Deputy Chief Finance Officer
  • A professional Accountant qualification + recent experience in a CFO/FD role
  • Business/Commercial/Pension experience
  • Procurement experience - managing and ensuring the system is proportionate
  • Experience in setting and achieving strategic objectives and in supporting colleagues across all functions.
  • Good communication and demonstrable interpersonal skills at all levels within an organisation
  • Proven people management skills - experience of leading and working with colleagues throughout the organisation and in delivering high performance within a team.
