With a pioneering and differentiated proposition, our client is a B2B/B2C multi-sited service offering operating across a rapidly evolving and consolidating niche market. Private equity backed, they have pursued a highly successfully business strategy (both organic and M&A) that has delivered exponential growth from £3m to £13m ebitda during this investment lifecycle. Now 12 months from exit, they have received significant early interest from potential investors seeking to back the management on a secondary buy-out that will take the business to an enterprise value of circa £200m by the end of that journey; however, with the incumbent FD stepping down, we seek a commercially focused yet practical Finance Director to lead the line to exit alongside the CEO.
The mandate centres on supporting the CEO to achieve a successful realisation. Internally that’s all about driving out the necessary pre-exit efficiencies whilst continuing to eke out further strategic acquisitions that will enhance value at exit; externally the focus is working with the advisory community to establish an appropriate ‘data room’ before moving onto the presentation rounds with potential investors. Beyond the excitement of exit, the brief requires the usual mix of functional line management and departmental delivery (financial reporting, forecasting, budgeting, financial & performance monitoring, maintaining tight control across the business, working capital management). Commercially the role also requires you to support the CEO in establishing a coherent post-exit strategy whilst focusing attention on existing contracts to ensure consistent yields. There is also a management piece that is also all about extending your relationship focus beyond the leadership of your own financial function and supporting the board, operational peers and managers with insightful financial guidance.
This is a dynamic role for a highly experienced Finance Director (ACA, ACMA) with gravitas and energy – a commercial ‘doer’ who understands the complexity of taking a business through exit and onto secondary buyout, whilst enhancing value through continued M&A activity. You will have driven growth within a PE backed entity with ebitda values in excess of £20m and been part of the cultural transaction from an entrepreneurially led to corporate player. It also seeks people who functionally have a track record of seeing the business through the numbers, can pinpoint and challenge contract variances and add real commercial value by applying logical stewardship and guidance to the boardroom and operations. In terms of sector exposure, we particularly welcome candidates from multi-sited operational businesses with large workforces where the delivery of service level agreements/contracts to time, cost and quality are key drivers – logistics, maintenance, staffing, outsourcing and care sectors are good matches.
