Senior Management Accountant/Business Partner - Shepton Mallet (opportunity to be based from home 2 days per week) - £35,000 - £40,000

We currently have a full-time permanent vacancy for a Senior Management Accountant/Business Partner to join the local government division. This role will suit someone, with good budgeting experience and strong analytical skills. Experience of the local government sector would be advantageous. The main responsibilities and duties for this post include:

  • Lead role in the production of annual revenue and capital budgets for our client.
  • Lead role in the production of the Council's Medium Term Resource Strategy.
  • Co-ordinate and produce monthly, quarterly and annual monitoring reports for discussion with budget managers, help to produce accurate forecasts and challenge where necessary.
  • Presentation of management accounts at monthly client meetings.
  • Provide variance analysis, identify added-value reporting opportunities for trend analysis and commentary to assist forecasting and budgeting requirements.
  • Support the organisation in financial processes, and in identifying opportunities for improved business performance, along with helping the team to deliver those improvements.
  • Work with all departments and the management team to help make financial decisions.
  • Support the client on financial matters and provide training where necessary.
  • Completion of government returns, within deadlines.
  • Interpretation and implementation of legislative changes.
  • Management of the management accountant within the team.
  • Temporary management of the administration service.
  • Management of own and team workload and prioritising work to ensure compliance with service level agreements, performance indicators and other company deadlines.
  • Closing down the revenue and capital accounts for the Council, ensuring all relevant accruals, journals and recharges are processed.
  • Liaising with auditors as required.
  • Assisting in the preparation of the annual statement of accounts as required in the closedown plan.
  • Any other reasonable requirements as requested by management.

Essential Experience/Skills

  • CIMA/CCAB Qualified Accountant or finalist
  • Experience in budget setting and reporting
  • Experience in production and presentation of management accounts
  • Technically competent
  • Experienced with MS Office suite, including knowledge of Excel to at least intermediate level
  • Experience in ERP financial systems
  • Can-do attitude and approach
  • Work effectively within a team and on your own

  • Experience of business process review
  • Experience in spreadsheet modelling and manipulation
  • Experience of Agresso or Integra financial systems including budgeting modules
