A growing engineering and services business are looking to recruit a new Head of Financial Control to report into the Finance Director, to be based in Gatwick.
Background
The business is due to embark on a period of expansion, and is expected to double in size over the next 2 to 3 years. Current turnover is circa £250m. The business is part of a large American organisation.
Role Overview
This is a broad position, with the successful applicant taking the lead on all central Financial Control activities. You will build a sound financial structure appropriate to the Strategy and Growth of the business, whilst ensuring compliance with UK and US regulation. You will develop strong relationships with the US Head Office and key external bodies, and take a lead on all Strategic Finance issues. Your responsibilities will span Accounts Payable, Accounts receivable, Treasury, Financial Accounting and Risk & Compliance. All business unit Financial Controllers report into this position.

Key Responsibilities
- Establishing a strong financial control environment suitable to support the growth strategy of the business.
- Work closely with leadership team members and heads of functions to become a key business partner to help drive profitability and a greater financial awareness.
- Responsible for day-to-day operations of the financial accounting team, including Business Controls and SOX, shared services, Balance Sheet control, overheads reporting, corporate reporting requirements, Systems and Audit.
- Lead any M&A integration activities and the structure necessary to support new strategic lines of business e.g. major deals.
- Address and drive an appropriate financial structure for the future of the business.
- Be the cross functional lead on structural changes which drive efficiency and improvement.
- Address the appropriate structure for recovering Overhead expenditure in the light of a strategic move into a new sector.
- Address the integration of in house training and ensure appropriate accounting for Revenue, Costs and Cash and suggest improvements to reporting and controls.
- Lead the Finance aspect of an ERP upgrade.
- Regularly review and improve Cash Control and flow.
- Hold regular reviews of the Balance Sheet to maintain great control.
Experience and Knowledge Required
- A strategic, long term thinker capable of delivering change.
- ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified or equivalent.
- Large company experience (£100m+ turnover) within in a similar role.
- Sector experience is not needed, but you must have experience of long term contract accounting.
- Strong team management experience, of at least 10 people or more.
- Experience of system changeover desirable but not essential.
- Experience of working in both practice and commerce would be desirable, but not essential.
