Action Together, based in Oldham and Tameside, are looking to recruit a finance director in a brand new post

Your new company
Action Together was formed in April 2016 and brings together two charities; Voluntary Action Oldham (VAO) and Community and Voluntary and Action Tameside (CVAT). We have 44 staff (41fte equivalents), and are governed by an independent board of charitable trustees made up of local groups, stakeholders and leaders. Action Together is a support and development organisation for voluntary, community and faith groups across the boroughs of Oldham and Tameside.

Our vision is of strong and dynamic communities in Tameside and Oldham that have the means to support themselves and their neighbours to enhance their quality of life. As a responsible charity, we aim to be more enterprising, reducing our reliance on traditional income streams. Over the last few years we have undertaken a range of short term consultancy, research, and training and grant management projects for voluntary and statutory sector clients, over and above our 'core' service to local groups.

Your new role
You will be required to work closely with the senior management team, the CEO and the board in order to achieve sustainable goals whilst taking a lead on all aspects of technical and financial management including driving strategic plans, annual budgeting, building effective internal systems and completing year end & month end accounts. It will be your responsibility to drive improvements and implementations in order to ensure Action Together runs as effectively and efficiently as possible.

Other key elements of this position include leading on legal compliance throughout the organisation, ensuring that all financial returns (including VAT returns) meet legal standards and evaluating tax liabilities whilst working closely with the tax authorities.

As a member of the Action Together management team you will also be required to identify funding opportunities, develop proposals and secure funding for existing and new services, to champion local giving and community action across Oldham and Tameside, and to lead, develop and motivate staff within your Team.

What you'll need to succeed
You will be a qualified accountant (CIMA/ ACCA/ ACA) with a background in financial and team leadership. You will have worked within an all-round finance position and understand the financial regulations that will effect Action Together. Experience of managing cash flow and budgets is essential and it is also critical that you have the confidence and credibility to work with board members and senior stakeholders external to Action Together.

It would be also preferred that you have experience of leading and managing finance teams within a not for profit organisation, but this is not essential.

What you'll get in return
As a critical position within the management team at Action Together you have the opportunity to influence strategy and develop processes within a growing organisation. This is a particularly exciting time to join Action Together as they continue to develop, and you have the chance to lay foundations for the future of the organisation.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work with an excellent charity, to support and assist other charities with their finances as well and gain exposure to the local community.
