A fantastic opportunity to join a leading business in its field, for a period of 12 months as Financial Controller. The role will be based out of their Hemel Hemsptead office. For a period of 12 months, you will be primarily responsible to maintain the integrity of the accounting records in accordance with UK GAAP and IFRS.
You will manage the monthly and quarterly accounting closing process, ensure compliance with statutory requirements and works with local management to ensure that business processes and controls are established and followed.
You will support business /deal-making sales and finance teams and works closely with the credit/collections team to minimise exposures and secure accurate accounting.
Key duties
- Responsible for maintaining complete and accurate records for the trade activity in accordance with UK GAAP and IFRS. Responsible for preparation of main UK operating entities and supervision of 5 smaller European entities
- Communicating closely with regional finance, ensuring timely, accurate and complete feed of the chart of accounts
- Ensure that balance sheet reconciliations are performed and reviewed on a timely basis
- Reviewing sales contracts and terms and conditions to ensure that revenue recognition criteria are met and reviewing purchase contracts to ensure that liabilities are properly accounted for
- Ensuring that statutory financial statements and all other statutory filings are completed in line with local deadlines
- Preparing and submitting returns to competent authorities in a timely and professional manner including VAT Returns, EC Sales Lists and ONS surveys
- Working with Business Leaders to ensure that sound business practices and processes are established and adhered to that complies with the business's accounting policies and internal control requirements
- Acting as the interface for internal and external audits and driving simplification and efficiency of financial processes
- Working closely with the businesses on initiatives and understanding implications from a GAAP point of view
- Providing support to the AP process as required, including managing the purchase orders
- Assisting with customer financing in line with approved corporate models and ensuring that rebates and promotions are properly accounted for where appropriate
- Working closely with Regional Credit and local leadership team for credit issues and disclosure of business issues
- Participating or leading system, operational or process changes as required
Your skills
- Qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or overseas equivalent)
- Minimum of 5 years of work experience in Finance & Controlling preferred
- Strong GAAP / IFRS knowledge essential
- Experience interfacing with external auditors; detailed knowledge of statutory reporting requirements
- Requires strong oral, written and formal presentation skills including ability to communicate complex ideas
- Must have problem solving and analytical skills, combining good technical knowledge with good balance and judgement relating to accounting, financial and commercial issues
- Must be able to work with outsourced and/or cross-functional teams to provide direction and successfully drive results
- Strong systems skills, and advanced Excel
