Schools Finance Manager

About the role
We are looking for someone who can take ownership of the funding streams the Council receives for Schools and Early Years settings. You will ensure that this funding is correctly calculated, and allocated in accordance with the relevant legislation. Additionally you will ensure that where the allocations changes in-year budgets that these are revised and allocated in a timely manner. You will be the key point of contact for Schools on all funding and accounting matters. This includes a requirement to be the funding subject matter expert within the Council, maintaining a current knowledge of changes to legislation and guidance. You will work closely with the service area within the Council, ensuring they are informed of changes in legislation and schools’ funding arrangements.
A key requirement of the role is to deliver quality, valued, accurate and timely financial support to Schools and Private, Voluntary & Independent settings and prepare and present financial papers to Schools Forum.
You will be responsible for and therefore must be able to demonstrate evidence of the preparation of budgets (including 3 year Medium Term Financial Plan), and the preparation of internal monthly reporting pack including budget variance analysis and full-year projections.
You will be the key point of contact working with Schools in financial difficulty, and helping to develop solutions acceptable to all parties and therefore must be able to demonstrate how you can support this.
About You
To be considered for the role you must be a qualified accountant who is able to demonstrate schools / education finance experience. You must also be able to demonstrate excellent stakeholder management skills combined with strong organisation, presentation and communication skills.
