Job Description
Smiths Group plc is seeking a Reporting Analyst to join the group of companies on a permanent basis.
The role will be responsible for providing support for the monthly reporting of results to management and half-yearly reporting of result to the stock exchange.
The appointee will have the opportunity of developing their skills and abilities in a FTSE100 international group of companies, which will allow them to progress to other finance roles within the group, as well as developing expertise in monthly reporting process and participate in projects that will give them a wider perspective.
Duties and Responsibilities
The main purpose of the role is to support the monthly reporting of results to management and half-yearly reporting of result to the stock exchange. This involves:
• Monthly – consolidation of the monthly results– including processing adjustments, reviewing and validating data, drafting and checking schedules;
• Semi-annual – participate in the review of submitted data, analysis for results presentations and checking and verifying information;
In addition:
• Complete forecast and budget submissions for HQ adjustment entities;
• Projects – testing and validation of systems changes and working with divisional teams on process improvements;
• Review the completeness of information submitted as part of the monthly reporting process.
• Maintain, run and check reports to extract system data in the format required for management reporting;
• Process and report transactions and balances for a small portfolio of head office adjustment entities, and complete forecast and budget submissions;
• Complete reporting on behalf of one head office entity without full system access;
• Manage the process of clearing mis-matches on intercompany entries, ensuring that all an acceptable position is reached on a consolidated group basis;
• Support the divisional review work on the half year Financials, by setting up templates and providing instructions on running reports;
• Support the preparation of additional analysis for the results presentations for the half year and year end;
• Complete testing on systems changes to confirm that calculations are robust and reliable.
Required Skills and Experience
• Strong numerical skills (with relevant qualifications, preferably university degree level education);
• An interest in Finance (with previous relevant education / work experience);
• Good Excel skills (pivot tables, vlookups, sumifs);
• An interest in IT processes and the basics of database operation;
• Motivated and flexible (the job will involve long hours at certain points in the year);
• Good communication skills (need to build relationships with finance teams around the world);
• A second language – an asset, but not essential.
