Job Description
Smiths Group plc is seeking a Group Accountant to join the group of companies on a permanent basis.
The role will be responsible for support the monthly reporting of results to management and half-yearly reporting of result to the stock exchange.
The appointee will have the opportunity to develop a career in the finance team of a FTSE100 group of companies and be involved in the preparation of a complex set of accounts, with the ability to take direct ownership of some of the sections.
Duties and Responsibilities
Consolidation of the monthly results – including responsibility for the group cash flow and reserves – and preparing disclosures for interim and annual reports.
With specific responsibility for:
• Preparation of the monthly consolidated cash flow, reviewing submitted data and obtaining explanations for cash movements reported outside operating cash;
• Review of the monthly adjustments to obtain headline performance metrics, confirming that changes are consistent with the approved classifications;
• Provide guidance to and sickness cover for the reporting analyst;
• Review reserve movements reported monthly and update the records for the cumulative exchange gains and losses deferred in reserves;
• Review allocated sections of the divisional work on the half year Financials, confirming completeness and using it to draft disclosure notes;
• Prepare the consolidated Group statutory cash flow and earnings per share workings;
• Calculate Group and divisional share based payment charges, including obtaining fair value assessments from remuneration consultants and actuaries and working with Company Secretarial on the share options database;
• Prepare projected share based payment charges for budgets and forecasts, and working with the HR team to provide the projections required for reporting to the Remuneration Committee;
• Project work with the Technical Reporting Manager on changes to Group KPIs, accounting policies and Financial reporting standards.
Required Skills and Experience
• A qualified (if part-qualified then substantially complete qualification) accountant (ACA / ACCA preferred);
• Ideally from a practice background, with strong experience of group consolidations (preparing or auditing);
• An asset – audit experience, experience preparing complex cashflows, experience of multi-currency consolidations;
• Good attention to detail, motivated, flexible and with good communication skills;
• A second language – an asset, but not essential.
