Arsenal Football Club are looking for a Commercial Finance Manager to business partner the Retail, Licensing & Stadium Tours areas of the business.
Reporting into the Group Financial Controller in their modern offices in North London the role will be very varied and will offer a huge amount of exposure through out.
Main duties will include looking after the monthly reporting to the business through to budgeting, long-term strategic planning, regulatory & tax compliance, and ad-hoc projects. The Commercial Finance Manager will have one direct and 2 indirect (dotted line) reports with responsibility for their overall development.
Responsibilities include:
Retail, Licensing and Stadium Tours:
- Business partner with the Retail management team, including buying & merchandising, store operations, ecommerce, wholesale, licensing and stadium tours.
- Understand and document all Retail financial processes, and refine these where possible.
- Monthly financial reporting to the Retail Director with commentary and analysis.
- Prepare in-flight forecasts and annual re-forecast, monitoring variances where necessary.
- Prepare budgets and 3 year plans in partnership with management team, ensuring assumptions are properly challenged and best practice is followed.
- Monitor leases, rent-free periods, capital contributions, etc.
- Ensure licensee payment plans are adhered to and that revenue and bad debt are properly accounted for.
- Appraise new commercial initiatives and ensure best practice is followed.
- Prepare commission calculations.
- Ad-hoc projects as they arise.
Premium Sales and Meetings & Events:
- Business partner with the Head of PSSO.
- Prepare monthly financials with commentary and analysis.
- Forecasts and budgets as above.
- Oversee the seasonal invoicing of Club Level stocks.
- Monitor all clients on payment plan and challenge sales teams on recovery.
- Review and appraise annual catering pricing proposals/structures.
- Review commission calculations.
Legal, The Arsenal Foundation and Community depts:
- Review monthly and quarterly financials.
- Advise and counsel on strategy where required.
- Supervise forecasting and budgeting workflows.
- Present financials to the Foundation AGM.
Reporting:
- Assist with preparation and presentation of monthly Commercial Finance Pack.
- Assist with preparation of Executive Dashboard.
Capex:
- Ensure capex processes are adhered to and correctly documented.
- Budget tracking on all on-going projects.
- Financial modelling and business cases for proposed capex spend.
- Post-completion appraisals on major projects.
Systems and processes:
- Automate the integration of NAV monthly reporting into GP.
- Monitor implementation of new payment systems to ensure smooth and reconciled settlement of funds.
- Ensure that processes are fit for purpose and future growth, and that adequate financial reporting is in place.
- Document stock controls in place and build reporting for monthly Finance Pack.
- Ensure the delivery of full EPoS reporting in line with scoped requirements and with bespoke, automated, scheduled outputs.
Tax:
- VAT compliance across all Retail business areas.
- Transition VAT adjustments from manual to monthly automated processes.
- Liaise with external agencies where necessary.
The successful Commercial Finance Manager will:
- Be a Qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or overseas equivalent)
- Have direct exposure working within a financial position with retail experience
- Have strong communication skills to be able to effectively challenge stakeholders at all levels
- Have a "can do" attitude with the ability to drive change
